For this guest base update, every colorway is inspired by Scottish horror movies, or horror movies set in Scotland. Remote islands. Old rituals. Bad weather. Worse decisions. Things in the woods. Things under the ground. Things our ancestors probably knew not to disturb, but random teenagers on a party binge will definitely wake up with their shenanigans.
Naturally, I made yarn about it.
The base in question is Casta Lace, a custom-milled yarn created for The Wee Yarn Company, and I was lucky enough to get my hands on a few kilos for this very limited update.
Casta is Scottish Gaelic for twisted or twined, which fits the two-ply construction of this 50% Falkland Merino. 25% Gotland and 25% Corriedale blend perfectly. The running length for a 100 gram skein is 650 meters.
You can use Casta Lace single-stranded, but it was really made to be held double, which is where things get fun.
Hold two strands of the same colorway, marl two totally different colors together, build a fade by swapping out one strand at a time. More than enough options to challenge yourself and whatever lurks in the lochs. Just make sure you create something beautiful enough to summon an elderly woman from a remote village who tells you, very firmly, not to go up the hill after dark.
