Taxes & Duties
Taxes and import charges depend on where your order is being delivered. The tax treatment and any charges collected by Undercover Otter are calculated using the information available for your order and confirmed at checkout.
For international shipments, your destination country may also charge import VAT, customs duty, tariffs, brokerage charges, or carrier handling fees. Where those charges are not collected by Undercover Otter at checkout, they may be collected from you on import.

VAT & Price Display
How is VAT calculated?
Tax is determined primarily by the delivery destination and the details of the order. The storefront may initially use your detected location or selected market to estimate prices and taxes, but your shipping information at checkout determines the final calculation.
If you are using a VPN, travelling, or shipping to a different country from the one you are currently in, the price or tax display may change when you enter the delivery address.
What happens for orders delivered within the European Union?
For consumer orders delivered within the European Union, applicable VAT is included or collected according to the destination and the tax rules that apply to the order. The exact amount is confirmed at checkout.
For orders delivered in the Netherlands, the products normally sold by Undercover Otter are generally subject to the Dutch standard VAT rate of 21%.
What about Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, and other countries outside the EU?
The European Economic Area is not the same as the EU VAT area. Orders exported from the Netherlands to destinations outside the EU are generally not charged Dutch VAT where the sale qualifies as an export.
Your destination may instead require local VAT, import tax, customs duty, or other charges. In some countries these may be collected at checkout; in others they are collected by customs or the delivery carrier.
Why can the price change when I change my shipping country?
Different markets can have different tax treatment, currencies, duties, or price-inclusion rules. Changing your destination can therefore change the amount displayed. The complete price shown at checkout before payment is the amount charged by Undercover Otter.
Country-Specific Information
Great Britain: England, Scotland and Wales
For direct consumer orders sent from the Netherlands to Great Britain, consignments with an intrinsic goods value of £135 or less require the overseas seller to account for UK VAT at the point of sale.
Undercover Otter does not currently collect UK VAT at checkout, so affected low-value consumer orders are not accepted for shipment to Great Britain. Checkout restrictions are used to prevent these orders.
Orders above £135 may be accepted where a shipping method is available at checkout. Normal UK import VAT and customs rules then apply, and charges may be collected from the recipient by customs or the delivery carrier before delivery.
Northern Ireland
Northern Ireland has different VAT and import arrangements from Great Britain. The Great Britain £135 handling described above should not be assumed to apply in exactly the same way.
Current shipping availability for Northern Ireland is determined at checkout.
United States
Physical goods exported from the Netherlands to the United States are not charged Dutch or EU VAT.
US customs duties, tariffs, taxes, or other import charges can apply depending on the product classification, country of origin, value, and the rules in force when the shipment is imported.
If an import duty or tariff is collected by Undercover Otter at checkout, it will be shown before you pay and handled through the shipping and customs process. If a charge is not collected by us, US customs or the delivery carrier may charge the recipient where applicable.
Because tariff rates can change, Undercover Otter does not publish a fixed general US tariff percentage on this page.
Customs & Import Charges
Who pays customs duties, import taxes, and carrier fees?
Unless checkout specifically states that a duty, tax, or import charge is included or collected by Undercover Otter, charges imposed by the destination country, customs authority, broker, or delivery carrier are the responsibility of the customer or importer where applicable.
These charges are set by third parties and are not controlled by Undercover Otter.
How do you declare international parcels?
International shipments are declared using the actual sales value and the customs information appropriate to the products, including the relevant product classification and country of origin.
I cannot mark a commercial purchase as a gift, deliberately lower its value, or knowingly use false customs information. Please do not ask me to do so.
Can customs delay my parcel?
Yes. Customs authorities may inspect, hold, or process an international shipment before releasing it to the local delivery network. These delays are outside Undercover Otter's direct control.
A customs delay or a period without a tracking update does not automatically mean that a parcel is lost. See the Shipping Policy for information about delayed shipments.
What if I refuse a parcel because of import charges?
Refusing or failing to collect a parcel does not automatically cancel the order or guarantee a full refund. If the parcel is returned to Undercover Otter, any refund, reshipment, or additional shipping charge will depend on the circumstances and the consumer rights that apply.
Customs duties, import taxes, brokerage charges, or carrier fees paid directly to third parties cannot normally be refunded by Undercover Otter. See the Returns & Refunds Policy and Shipping Policy.
Business Orders & Invoices
Can EU business customers use VAT reverse charge?
A VAT-registered business in another EU member state may qualify for an intra-EU business transaction without Dutch VAT where the legal requirements are met.
Please contact Undercover Otter before placing and paying for the order so your business and VAT details can be checked and the order can be handled correctly. A completed consumer order cannot normally be retroactively converted into a reverse-charge transaction.
Can I get a VAT invoice?
Yes. Order documentation is provided electronically. If you need a VAT-compliant invoice or specific business details included, contact me with your order number and the required billing information.
Good to Know
Does Undercover Otter control the amount customs charges me?
No. When taxes, duties, or fees are assessed by customs or a carrier rather than collected by Undercover Otter at checkout, I do not control the amount they charge or their processing times.
Which amount should I rely on before placing an order?
The amount shown at checkout is the amount you pay to Undercover Otter for the order. If checkout states that duties or taxes are included, those identified charges are included in that total. If duties or import taxes are not stated as included, additional destination-country charges may still be payable on import.
