1981 was a brilliant year. I'd go as far as to say I personally think it's the best year (I was born in it ). Next to me crawling out of a womb, my favorite movie of pretty much all time got released: The Evil Dead.
I love this movie so much because it shows love for the genre, budding acting, creative solutions to production problems and a lot of ridiculous gore. If you can find the DVD with the commentary track, which features Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell, watch it. There is some great behind the scenes info in it.
The story centers around Ash Williams (Bruce Campbell) who goes to a secluded cabin in the woods with his sister and friends. There they find an old stuffy book, read some shit poetry from it and whammo: Deadites.
Technically I would probably need to fight for the statement that these deadites are zombies. They are borderline magically possessed, but the chances of people surviving the possession is slim to none. So, I kinda choose to add the Deadites to the zombie category.
It's not a surprise that we have quite a few products in our shop that are inspired by this movie. We have an Ash inspired fiber blend with smooth baby alpaca (as smooth as Bruce Campbell himself) and a colorway named after the Deadites.
